LetTheVotersDecide believes Texas needs to focus on economic development tools that will bring needed growth and prosperity to our state. That is why we support limited, casino-anchored development projects in Texas.
My personal belief is that casino gambling is inevitable in Texas. (This is based not only on demand by gamblers but also non-gamblers that want better education without raisig taxes). However, full-fledged casino gambling is not a prerequisite for poker cardrooms. For instance, Garden City in California has legal poker but no traditional casinos. My guess is that is less than 5 years poker will be legal in Texas.
Don't forget that gambling (poker, slots, or otherwise) is not a sure thing. Remember that we live in one of the most conservative states that was, until recently, strongly opposed to legalizing gambling. This is not shoe-in.
Also remember that the Texas Constitution must be amended (not as easy as passing a bill). I too think it'll come though.
After all, why do you think Tillman Fertitta just bought the Golden Nugget? Because he likes Vegas??? No, he wants to start his own casino empire in other states.
