Another quote from Negreanu regarding his heads up challenge matches against Barry Greenstein.
Q: How do you feel about what Barry Greenstein said about you and other tournament players who come to play in the big game?
Negreanu: “I think he misunderstands who I am, realistically because I DO play $4,000-$8,000. That’s what I played all last year. Well for most of the year. And $2,000-$4,000. He seems to say that I cannot win in that game. Well, I already have. I’m up over a million. I know it’s a short amount of time. I haven’t played hundreds of hours, but I am ahead in that game. And when I continue to play with Barry, I will be ahead. And I plan on, literally...this is going to sound really bad...but I plan on beating him so badly that eventually I have to stake him in a $40-$80 Hold ‘Em game.”
It was on one of the WSOP video interviews on CardPlayer.com. They didn't say exactly what Greenstein said, but it was basically trash talking: "Negreaunu is over-matched, and he can't beat me." etc.
I think Greenstein, despite being the Robin Hood of poker, is pretty well regarded by most pro's as one cocky bastard. I'm sure his comments were along those lines.
I figured someone would have linked it by now. I read the whole thing, but have no clue where I saw it. (I thought it was from here) Greenstein said he is amazed that today's tournament winners are being hailed as hero's as much as they are (my words). He talks about how these "tournament players" can win one time in a few months and look like the world's best, when he and ivey, brunson, reese, and 2 others I can't remember, are busy playing the biggest cash game in the world on a daily basis, but gettin' no love. He also stresses that if these players were so good, they wouldn't have to pimp their DVD's, books, websites, etc, etc. In other words, if they were good enough, they'd be out killing cash games, not worrying about making $10 on a DVD. This is probably when Negreanu chimes in. A bit of it sounds bitter, but since he's won a WPT event, I don't know where it comes from.
Random thoughts from a lawyer, an accountant, a commodities trader, an ex-Marine and a WSOP Main Event money finisher that don't know as much as they wish they did...
