In 1996 I went backpacking around Europe. I was living pretty lean, often getting by on $20 / day (bed, food and my penchant for alcohol). I went to Prague (twice) that summer. On the way out of town, I had a few hours to kill before my train left. I saw a casino and stopped in for a little blackjack. I was the only customer there, so all the dealers were just hanging out with me and I had free pivo (beer) flowing.
I started out with the table minimum (which was something less than US$1 I believe) but as the winnings mounted, I kept increasing my bet. When it was time to leave, I was up US$720. This at a time when I quit Coca Cola Light because it was eating up too much of my daily budget.
That was quite a windfall and it had the effect of significantly improving the quality of food and hostel for the remainder of my trip.
I hope I am similarly lucky next week.
