With the addition of California's 35 million population base to the Mega Millions game, the participating states have voted to change the matrix of the game from 5 of 52 and 1 of 52 to 5 of 56 and 1 of 46. This will change the odds of winning the grand prize from approximately 1 in 135 million to 1 in 176 million. The overall odds of winning any prize will be approximately 1 in 40.
