He came, he saw, he conquered. Congratulations Ryan DeWitt!
In less than 4 hours of work, Ryan turned $40 into a $1000 entry fee into the 2006 WSOP and pocketed $860 to help him pay for his travel expenses this summer. Robin Langley was the hard luck runner-up in the 2-1/2 hour finale.
In all, 29 entries were collected on Saturday that formed 2 tables of 8 players at 11am, and tables of 6 and 7 at 3pm. Ryan won his seat at a dangerous short-handed table at 3pm, while Robin secured his seat at one of the 11am tables. The other 6 finalists were Charles Dunshie, Tony Ford, Michael Davis, Nato Guajardo, Dennis Crowley, and Jessica Padilla. (Yes, the torch has been passed)
The turning point during the final 2: A turn-card “5” gives both players trip 5’s and all the money gets into the pot, with Ryan all-in. Robin’s king of diamonds has Ryan’s 7 covered, but there are 3 hearts on the board. The river brings a 4th heart to allow Ryan’s 7 of hearts to play for a flush. Ryan’s rush begins there and ends with him hitting 3 consecutive straights, 2 of which take down big pots. The 3rd and final one earns a call from Robin to end the match.
STAY TUNED FOR THE LEAST EXPENSIVE SATELLITE OF THE YEAR ON FEBRUARY 18TH & 19TH.
***What this is all about (original post)*** In an effort to send more people to the WSOP this year, I am planning to hold a series of satellites that will award entry fees and travel expenses to some of the lower buy-in events this summer. My goal is to hold one per month, with buy-ins ranging from $40 to $125, between January and June, for WSOP buy-ins ranging from $1000 to $5000.
There are 7 Hold 'Em tournaments that begin on Fridays or Saturdays at the WSOP...5 NL, 2 PL, and 1 Limit. I will choose 6, or will hold 7 satellites if demand exists.
Satellites will be NL for the NL WSOP events, PL for the PL event (Held on 7/22), and Limit for the Limit event (Held on 7/15). NL WSOP dates are 7/1, 7/7, 7/14, 7/21, and 8/5. (Fri & Sat only)
Note that the last one interferes with the Main Event, so it might get bumped.
Retraction: The prizes awarded will be for ANY satellite at the prescribed buy-in. For example, there are no less than 10 events at this year’s WSOP with an entry fee of $1500. If you win the $1500 satellite, you may enter ANY $1500 tournament of your choice, including NL, PL, Limit Hold ‘Em, Omaha, O8, NL Short, etc., etc……..whatever is offered!
This may or may not affect the type of satellites played.
Come back soon, the tentative date for Satellite #1 is January 28th & 29th.
