I often have opinions that earn me the label of "conspiracy theorist." However, there was one area where I historically was the one throwing that label at other perceived lunatics: guys who claimed that sports were rigged.
My wife's uncle once spent an entire evening feeding me Budweisers and stories of rigged games. I, of course, thought he was a luncatic. I was wrong.
(I can admit when I am wrong. I used to think that Iraq was choc full of weapons of mass destruction and that the naysayers were lunatics. I guess I was the lunatic!)
Given the recent NBA scandal and several historical NCAA basketball point shaving scandals, it is clear that players and officials alike are in on the scam. Maybe Pete Rose was too, meaning that managers/coaches are as well. That makes everyone.
But damn if
this isn't a hell of a story. It really makes me sick. I wonder if UT has been involved in a rigged game. This whole mess makes sportswatching a lot less interesting. Although the overall incidence of cheating is surely less than 1% of all games, it does plant that seed of doubt in your head while watching all games, doesn't it?
